Description
Big Bang™ Coreopsis are compact, long-blooming perennial Tickseeds bred by Darrell Probst from crosses of several coreopsis species — many of them native to the Southeast. They flower for months with little fuss and shrug off heat, humidity, drought, and poor sandy soil. Pollinator magnets for bees and butterflies, deer and rabbit resistant, and disease tolerant. Perfect for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and pollinator beds.
Choose Your Variety:
🌌 Cosmic Eye — 2" blooms with wine-red petals tipped in bright yellow around a bold orange-gold center eye. 12–16" tall × 12–16" wide, low compact mound.
✨ Star Cluster — 1½–2½" creamy white daisies with bright yellow centers. As the weather cools, grape-purple streaks appear at the base of every petal, so in Central Florida the best color comes fall through spring. Sterile, so it keeps flowering without reseeding. 18–24" tall × 18–24" wide, mounded habit.
Coreopsis Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Full sun — 6+ hours daily for best blooms.
💧 Water: Average water needs; allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Drought tolerant once established. Avoid soggy soil.
🌱 Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates poor or sandy Florida soils well.
✂️ Pruning: Deadhead or shear back lightly after a heavy flush to push new blooms. Cut back to just above soil level in early spring for fresh vigorous growth.
🌿 Fertilizer: Feed lightly with compost or balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen feeds — too much makes plants floppy with fewer flowers.
🌸 Bloom Season: Early summer through fall.
🌡️ Zones: 5–9 (thrives in Central Florida).
🐾 Toxicity: Not considered toxic to dogs, cats, or horses.
