Description
English Ivy 'Gold Child' (Hedera helix) A stunning, award-winning variegated ivy, 'Gold Child' is known for its grey-green leaves with wide, bright gold margins. In cooler temperatures, the gold can even take on a beautiful lime-green hue. Unlike its more aggressive wild relatives, this cultivar is compact and slower-growing, making it a perfect choice for indoor hanging baskets, "Microtopia" terrariums, or as a trailing element in a mixed container. Its vibrant, three-lobed leaves add a touch of classic elegance and bright color to any space.
Quick Care Guide:
Gold Child Ivy
☀️ Light: Bright Indirect Light To keep the "Gold Child" looking its best, provide plenty of bright, filtered light. This maintains the high-contrast golden variegation; in too much shade, the leaves will revert to solid green. Protect it from the harsh, direct Florida sun to prevent the delicate variegated edges from crisping.
💧 Water: The "Surface-Dry" Method English Ivy prefers to stay on the slightly dryer side rather than sitting in soggy soil. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering deeply. If the leaves become limp, it’s a sign it is thirsty; if they turn brown and fall off, it may be overwatered.
🌴 Humidity: Moderate to High While it handles standard indoor air, 'Gold Child' loves the natural humidity of Wesley Chapel. High humidity also helps deter spider mites, which can be a common pest for ivies. Regular misting or grouping it with your Alocasias will keep it thriving and pest-free
🐾 Toxicity: Toxic to Pets English Ivy contains triterpenoid saponins and is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. It can also cause skin irritation (dermatitis) in humans and pets. It is best displayed in a hanging basket or on a high shelf out of reach of curious paws. Available in 4 in pot or hanging basket!
