Quick Care Guide: Jewel Orchid
☀️ Light: Low to Medium Indirect
Unlike most orchids, the Jewel Orchid (Ludisia discolor) is grown for its stunning, velvety foliage rather than its blooms. It thrives in lower light conditions, making it perfect for indoor spaces. Keep it away from direct Florida sun, which can fade its deep maroon leaves and silver veins.
💧 Water: Consistently Moist
Jewel Orchids are terrestrial, meaning they grow in soil rather than air. Keep the potting mix consistently damp, like a wrung-out sponge. Avoid letting it dry out completely, but ensure it isn't sitting in stagnant water to prevent root rot.
🌴 Humidity: High Humidity
This plant loves the "Microtopia" environment! It craves high humidity to keep its velvety leaves lush. It’s an ideal candidate for a terrarium or a humid spot in your Wesley Chapel home. If the air is dry, a pebble tray or frequent misting will keep it happy.
🐾 Toxicity: Non-Toxic to Pets
The Jewel Orchid is safe for cats and dogs. You can display its striking foliage on any tabletop or shelf without worrying about your furry friends.
🌱 Propagation: Stem Cuttings
This plant is easy to propagate by taking stem cuttings. Simply snip a piece with a few nodes and place it in moist sphagnum moss or water. Once roots develop, it’s ready for a new 4-inch nursery pot to expand your collection
