Description
Vibrant architectural plant. The Song of India (Dracaena reflexa) is a slow-growing houseplant with striking green and yellow striped leaves. It can grow into a beautiful small tree/bush over time.
Quick Care Guide: Song of India
☀️ Light: Bright, Indirect Sun To keep those vibrant yellow stripes from fading, give this plant plenty of bright, filtered light. It can handle some direct morning sun, but the harsh Florida midday sun in Wesley Chapel will scorch the variegated leaves.
💧 Water: The "Wait and See" Method Like your succulents, the Song of India prefers to dry out between waterings. Wait until the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Water thoroughly until it drains, but never let it sit in standing water—this variety is prone to root rot if kept too wet.
🌴 Humidity: Moderate While it’s more "tropical" than the Donkey Ears, it is surprisingly hardy. It enjoys the natural humidity of the Southeast but acclimates well to the drier indoor air of Pennsylvania or Maryland. A light misting once a week is plenty.
🐾 Toxicity: Toxic to Pets Dracaenas are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep this specimen on a high plant stand or a stable patio table out of reach of curious paws.
