Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation'

One of the most recognizable houseplants in the world, and one of the few variegated plants you can buy with confidence. 'Thai Constellation' was developed through tissue culture in Thailand, which means its variegation is genetically stable — it will not revert to plain green the way a cutting-propagated variegate can.

The leaves are large, glossy and heart-shaped, splashed with creamy white to pale yellow. Where the 'Albo' throws big solid blocks of white, the Thai scatters speckles and marbled sectors across the whole leaf, which is where the constellation name comes from. As it matures it develops the dramatic fenestrations — the holes and splits — that Monstera are known for. It climbs, and given a pole and a few years it becomes a genuine statement piece.

☀️ Light: Bright indirect, and this one is not negotiable — the variegation depends on it. Too little light and growth stalls; direct sun scorches the white sectors, which have no chlorophyll to protect them.

💧 Water: Wait and see. Let the top half to three-quarters of the pot dry before watering. Variegated plants photosynthesize less than green ones, use less water, and are noticeably more prone to root rot than a standard Monstera.

🌴 Humidity: Moderate to high, 50% or better. Wesley Chapel air handles this for free most of the year; indoors under air conditioning a humidifier keeps the leaf edges clean.

🌱 Growth: Slower than a green deliciosa — that is normal and not a sign of a problem. Give it a moss pole once it starts reaching and the leaves will size up and fenestrate faster.

🪴 Feeding: Balanced liquid feed at half strength monthly through the warm season. Do not push it with heavy nitrogen; soft growth burns.

🐾 Toxicity: Toxic to pets. Contains calcium oxalate crystals — chewing causes mouth irritation and drooling. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
